Preliminary Task
What did you learn about the cameras and editing software during the preliminary task?
I found myself able to use the camera for different camera angles. Capturing thepreliminary task using different camera shots proven to be difficult but in the end we were successful. I learned to handle the 180 degree rule correctly. Examples of this are shown within the preliminary video as evidence. I also learnt that using the tripod can effect the overall filming because the tripod can be slightly off balance which can cause a slant in the film. I also learnt how to use the different zooms on the camera, it gives off an unproffesional image if the camera is zooming in a uncontrollable manner it gives a bad image, the clip would look unprofessional. I learn to the use the editing software (Final Cut Pro 7). This software allowed us to add new fades and different things to help the film have a better quality. The fade allowed us to move from scene to scene without it looking of a poor quality. With Final Cut Pro we were able to put the different scenes together to make it one full clip. I learnt that with the editing software I am able to add different special effects to make the clip look better and attract more people.
In the filming and editing of your project, what worked well and what could have been improved?
I found using the editing software very useful and easy to use. I found that the fades given to the editing software help to blend in the different scenes as they switch. This allows us to have a professional and good when doing a match cut. The match cut then doesn't give off the rookie image of it going from one scene to another continuously without no clear beginning and end. This meant that the editing worked well and it gave continuity throughout. The camera work could of been improved because it was first time usage of the camera so it was difficult for us to get the correct camera shots that we wanted. It was also a first time using the tripod so sometimes it wasn't set up correctly so different takes were needed to find the correct shot that we wanted.
Give a detailed, specific example of how you have used a shot/reverse shot in your film combination-
In my prelimary task I added a shot reverse shot in my short film. I decided to use this whilst in the dialogue to show the different expressions of the two people having the conversation. The shot reserve starts when Jacob (In black) places his hand on Martin (In Grey). As he tells him "Leah" is the women he's in love with. So therefore this correlates the intense conversation consisting between the two characters. I constructed this so firstly we are situated on jacobs face, once breaking the news the shot reverse shot goes onto Martin and shows the expansion of his facial expression when hearing the news then moves back to Jacob.
Give a detailed, specific example of how you achieved match cuts during the editing process
Matchcut was used when jacob looks down at the piece of paper. Then the paper is zoomed into once we know what jacob is looking at. This is to show that jacobs attention is focused on the piece of paper. This helps cause the dramatic effect of the note and the significance of the note.
